Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Faro

The sanctuary dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Faro (or of the Assumption) is located at the top of the Monte do Faro. It was built by the Benedictine monks of the Monastery of Ganfei, in Valença, in the late 17th century and early 18th century. A stairway through the vegetation leads to the top of the hill, where there is the chapel, surrounded by several interconnected terraced enclosures and remarkable trees. Further down, there is the chapel of Santa Ana and a transept, offering a wide view over the landscape to the sea.
