Enclosure of the Monastery of São João de Arga

A place of rare authenticity, this is an ancient Benedictine monastery that has been transformed into a sanctuary and is located on the northern buttress of the Arga mountain range. It consists of a walled enclosure with a Romanesque church with a Baroque façade in the centre. The church is surrounded by a notable group of pilgrims’ quarters, with enclosed verandas and remarkable examples of cork oak trees.
